Meet Our Staff
“In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God’s new heaven and new earth praying, ‘Come, Lord Jesus.’” —From “A Brief Statement of Faith”
Since 1957, Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church has offered care for children in this community through our Preschool Ministry. Click here for more information.
Meet our Team
The tender age of 17 was when I first began to wrestle with God’s call to ministry. It was that call that led me to college at Texas Christian University, seminary (Austin Presbyterian), and to pastorates in Texas and the North Carolina coast.
In 2000, God called us to the beautiful forest we call Brevard, and it is my honor to serve as Pastor here.
I enjoy hiking, and spending time with my wife, Debbie, and our daughters, Hannah and Hollis, and our dog, Max.
My name is Michael Helman and it is my privilege to be the Director of Music/Organist. I began playing organ in church when I was 16 and have served in churches in Wilmington, DE, Hockessin, DE and Cape Coral, FL before arriving in Western NC. I’m an active composer and arranger of choral, organ and handbell music as well as a clinician/conductor for music festivals and workshops. My interests include travel, reading, outdoor activities, and spending time with family and friends.
I am a native to the area and grew up in Etowah. I had been teaching the toddler class at Brevard Davidson River Preschool for 5 years and was asked to be the director in 2022. When I’m not taking care of my small zoo at home which includes cats, dogs, a chameleon and a bee hive, I also enjoy cooking, traveling, and anything Disney. I also enjoy spending time with my husband, Brian, and two children, Eli and Ava.
Hello- I’m Pat Crosby. I serve as the Bookkeeper for the church. I spent many years working in corporate America, where one often questions how what they do is really meaningful. In this calling, I know for sure. I am blessed to witness each day our congregation steward across many domains of living—helping others, working for the church, and yes, their finances. How blessed I am.
Hi I’m Denise Byrd. I am from Miami, and grew up in Hollywood, Florida. I got out of crowded South Florida in 1981 and moved to Brevard. I serve as the office manager. God is amazing calling me to this ministry in 1991 and He is truly showing me that it’s not just a “job” but a ministry. My favorite hobby and therapy is Pottery, and I am blessed to have a home studio with a kiln.
Hello, I’m Gregg Hall. I serve as Facilities Coordinator. I am a native of Transylvania County and have been apart of this wonderful ministry since 2009.
Hi I’m Carol Hall, Facilities Assistant. I retired from the US Postal Service in 2018. Gregg and I have 2 grown sons. I am excited to begin this new adventure.
